Specialist Portfolio

09/02/2018

I have finished my first shoot for my specialist portfolio and processed some of the images. I have chosen to switch from Fashion to Street Photography, as I have a solo exhibition coming up later in the year. This opportunity arises from my involvement in `Ol Town Arts. Other reasoning can be found here. Initially I could not arrange in my mind how, I would tackle the project, keep it controlled in a organised and well-constructed plan, which would not get messy as time goes on. I could not previsualise the routes and the different Bike Paths, I am going to try and capture some images of. In class on the 05/02/2018, I came up with an idea about how the River Hull divides the city. This could then be the divider between the different Paths in the east and west side of the city. I the downloaded a map of the cities bike paths from a council website and saw that this would hold true in both form and function. The layout of the accompanying book could also be laid out in the same way. the front end of the book could be the west side of the city. The city center  could then be the middle section, with the east side in the rear of the book. The chapters of the volume could follow the cycle tracks as they follow the Humber to the west and east. this would organise the book tidily. Holderness Road and finally Hedon Road. In the rear of the volume a section of the different villages the roads lead to. I decided to start walking home from university and following the paths. With this methodology I should have the time to capture images of all the paths and then select a portfolio of images from these shoots. The Specialist Portfolio could then be the pinnacle of the work in my publication.

I looked at my previous work and by following this plan, I would get both daylight and nighttime imagery for the project. I then chose a route from college to join up with my documentary re-submission. This would then be the starting point, and I would have imaged a trail from university to home and completed a section of the map.

The following maps show the routes taken.

This is the route for my documentary submission;

This is the route taken for my first shoot;

This combines together in this way and gives me a good starting point to branch off, and follow the adjoining paths to build up my collection of image captures.

The next shoot will hopefully follow the Paths through town and lead along Hessle Road. Then by working in a clockwise direction, follow the other paths, and finally fill in the gaps between them or other un-captured offshoots. This was planned for today, However, I have just received a phone call To go and discuss another commission, for a client. This will involve photographing some wall art paintings in situ and then making prints of the images for the owners hotel rooms, currently being built and renovated.

Here is a gallery of captures from my first sojourn in this endeavor.
