For my first shoot for this project, I had thought about how to start. I then realized after looking at the Cycle map I had obtained. If I left university and walked the cycle paths home, I could capture images of the city Centre and the division section. this would then free me to concentrate working left to right, going around the cycle tracks, would organize my workflow easily. For the first shoot, I used my 5d mk3 and attached a 50mm lens to it. I was going to use the opportunity to walk the cycle paths with my fixed lenses. In this way I would be able to photograph the tracks in numerous ways, over multiple trips. This would then hopefully give me a selection of interesting and different images. By also capturing images both in the daytime and at night, I would be able to see how they differed in the images. I would also then be able to start to see in black and white, further developing my abilities and techniques.
I have developed some of my images, to get a feel for converting and also to practice getting the best quality image out of my digital negatives. I have started by using a method coming from a screening. I import a pre-adjusted image from Lightroom in to Photoshop and start by duplicating the background layer (Ctrl J). I then use a black and white adjustment layer and then a gradient map layer. In this manner the black and white layer can be manipulated and gone back to in the future to change the tones of the image through the colour sliders. The gradient layer is blended to Hue, and levels layer over the top for any final adjustments. Once done then the black and white layer is blended in by going through the list and seeing which looks the best. Adjustments can be made through the control panel sliders, to create a pleasing image. I have on some of them had two or three attempts to see which settings work best for the image.
Here is a gallery of some images, these will be discussed further below.
Some imaages have come out and some have not.
