Sunday, my computer screen died, this is a new computer and it takes two or three months to go through the daily dragging around and bed in. Realising I had not backed anything up I died inside as the realisation of, I had uploaded my images but everything was on the computer, irretrievable.
Monday, I spent the day getting a screen and then completely go through my whole archive to free enough space to back up my work this semester on two external hard drives.
Tuesday, I spent the early morning on the phone to Dell, this resulted in gaining a connection from their computer to mine after running diagnostic tests without a screen and updating all my Bios and drivers. This worked and everything was now ok again. I then had to go to a meeting to organise my new job role that I am finally getting to start. This was rearranged as I arrived and the person I was meeting had to go to an emergency meeting at another office.
I had been asked to photograph the founding members of The Hull fringe 2017, in their own words “this is who we are shot”. This is when the laptop developed the same problem as I tried to upload the images from the camera. The shoot was in the Plotting Parlour of Ye Olde White Heart. The group thought this was the most appropriate place for the meeting, as they are plotting to put together a fringe festival displaying local culture and local talent. This meant I had to go to the Artlings office to get the images downloaded and onto a drive, for the picture guy to get it ready for Publishing in their media outlets.
Wednesday, back on the phone to Dell and another few hours of testing and going through things. We narrowed it down to a hardware problem and not a software problem and an engineer would be coming the next day to fix it.
I then had to go back to work for the rearranged meeting about my new job role. I will no longer be working in the kitchens, this is now for others to manage and I will be working in an office and just overseeing the kitchens. The company is undergoing through a complete overhaul as it expands it site numbers and themed venues. I will now be part of the team implementing this process and updating all the paperwork trails and dealing with implementation. This means that I have been taken off the rotas and can now be flexible in my working hours fitting how and when I work around university rather than how it has been. The two shifts a week in a kitchen was turning into three or four and so causing problems for both work and me, this comes from running around and spending small chunks of time on lots of different things rather than having the proper time management needed to do my job list correctly. as I was not getting the job done that I am supposed to be employed for, which is helping to go from a collection of individual themed restaurants and conglomerating them into a collection of themed corporations, through the expansion of the individual brands.
Thursday, went to my brother’s house and waited for the engineer to come and fix my Laptop. A new mother board was fitted and the possible fault of a wire not being correctly placed along its route was becoming nipped when pressing on the wrist pads of the computer. I then had my last shift in a kitchen, and am now free to catch up as I am now able to prioritise and organise putting together this semesters assignment.
Friday, I am in the studio all day catching up on the images I need for my portfolio of work.
