We’ve Eaten the Cake

The leftover cake has finally been eaten by the artists and visitors to the Hull In Paint exhibition. I am finally getting time to write up the gallery show. The exhibition went on for a further three days, before the next exhibition went up. This was due to Doug having to chase artists for their work.

Working with Hull in Paint has resulted in a number of commissions and opportunities to further my business practice and networking opportunities for the future. I have been made resident photographer for the Hull in Paint exhibitions for 2017. This involves going round with the gallery crew and helping to build, dismantle and man the exhibitions, whilst I document the exhibitions through photography, this position is both paid and unpaid. Volunteering and helping move and man the gallery is giving me an opportunity to gain experience and demystify the methodology and working operations and practices in exhibiting work. I have already done some work in the foyer of Princes Quay and this is now part of Hull in Paint`s redeveloped website and facebook pages. Hull in Paint have also joined up with The Hull Fringe 2017 and will be collaborating on various projects through till spring 2018. Giving me more opportunities to gain professional practice.

I am also getting commissioned to do some reproduction work for both the galleries and artists. The resulting images will be made into prints for sale on the website and through various outlets. Some of the images will also be used for advertising and marketing purposes.

The class`s exhibition was also the first time that photographs or digital media had been presented by Hull in Paint. The reasoning behind this; is that the organisers have hundreds of paintings to select from and if they included digital media this would turn into thousands of entries and they do not have the time or the manpower to go through them all. The organisers of Hull in Paint do this as a sideline to their professional practice. After seeing the success of our exhibition they are now looking at and discussing opening up the tour to digital media as well and I may have some role in the development and bringing to fruition this additional section to the travelling exhibition.

Further details will be posted and a write up of the exhibition will follow and will be included in the Galleries section heading
